Seniors' Open 2018

On Monday 20th August 2018 at 8.30 am on a calm and balmy day, ideal for good scoring, the opening drives in the Stanton Seniors' Open sailed down the fairway, and once again this annual and popular event was under way.

152 players from 37 different clubs took part this year, and although the fairways may not have been in their usual pristine condition due to this summer's exceptionally dry weather, the greens certainly were, and reflected the excellent scores returned.

The usual army of volunteer helpers are to be congratulated in putting on a show which contained elements of military precision that were much appreciated by all the competitors.

Stanton GC is very fortunate to have such dedicated Office, Bar, Restaurant, Green, and Professional Staff all of whom went that extra mile to ensure our guests were administered, watered, fed, golfed and advised to the highest possible standard!

The Winning Team in the Stanton Open was comprised of local duo Brian Lyall and Bob Braithwaite who posted an astounding score of 54 points, resulting in adulation and disbelief from fellow competitors left trailing in their wake.
"How many times did you go round? "
"Did you enter the NETT scores in place of the GROSS scores?"
were some of the kinder quips. Other comments are not for publication in a family-friendly environment!

Their back nine scores consisted of 5 NETT birdies and 4 NETT eagles - truly remarkable! Well done Brian and Bob - you have now officially been inducted into the "Hall of Bandits"!!

It was much appreciated that so many competitors stayed for the Prize Presentation, expertly compèred by Vice-Captain Peter Gauntley with Seniors' Captain Jeff Hooley in attendance.
