The InterClub Scratch Team for the home match against Trent Lock on Monday 25th June at Stanton was:-
- Charles Banks
- Anthony Wain
- James Green
- Tom Davies
- Shaun Murphy
- Reserves:- Dan Limon, Neil Collings.
The match was played at Stanton on a very warm evening - a welcome change from the chilling north wind which normally has to be endured in these games. The golf course was in superb condition and with the greens running very fast the home team had a distinct advantage. Well done to Head Greenkeeper Dan and his Team. There was some excellent golf played, particularly by our Team, clearly buoyed by the carnival atmosphere generated by a similar one-sided team result in another sport!
Tom lead from the front against Warren Carr. After losing the first hole he moved to four up after eleven holes. Although he lost twelve and thirteen he fought back to win fourteen to go dormie three up. The fifteenth was halved with Tom saving par after an indifferent tee shot. He lost the sixteenth to a birdie but won the seventeenth to gain the Team's first point, winning his match 2 & 1. Well done Tom.
Charles vs Sam Smith turned out to be a comfortable win for Charles who played extremely well, closing out his opponent 8 & 7 and being three under par at the finish. Second point gained. Well played Charles.
Right on cue, Shaun made his home debut and also had a comfortable win, finishing off his match 5 & 4. As you would expect his short game expertise was no fluke, spot-on on the night and thus chalked up the Team's third point.
And now for the match of the evening. James vs Martin Joseph with James being as entertaining as ever. The match was tight affair all the way and all square after fifteen holes, but James lost the sixteenth to a par which left him one down with two to play. On the seventeenth Martin topped his tee shot and although James drove into a fairway bunker, he played a brilliant recovery shot to open up the green. Martin, unfortunately for him, had found the left side rough, and in spite of the generous assistance of the local supporters could not find his ball and so conceded the hole. Match all square. James won the eighteenth to finish 1 UP and gain another point. This match always looked as if James would come second, but due to grit and determination he pulled off a fine win against the odds.
Anthony vs Liam Bramhall turned out to be an easy win for Stanton. Anthony, an experienced campaigner, played very well and was never really in any trouble during his comfortable 7 & 6 victory. Well played Anthony.
Stanton 5 0 Trent Lock (V.A.R. not required!)
Very well played all the Team and thank-you once again to the faithful supporters for their backing on the night.
