The Scratch Team selected to represent Stanton for the match v Nottingham City at Stanton-on-the-Wolds on TUESDAY 29th May was:-
- Anthony Wain
- Charlie Banks
- James Green
- Tom Davies
- Dan Limon
- Reserves: Jon Kisby & Jevan Goddard
Stanton got off to a cracking start as Nottingham City only brought four players and hence went one match down before a ball was struck! Unfortunately it was Tom who drew the short straw and had to stand down, but in true Stanton spirit, he stayed with his caddie Andy and supported the rest of the team, which was very much appreciated by his fellow team members and me. Tom, never one to miss an opportunity, quipped that this was definitely one of his more leisurely wins.
Dan won his game 7&5 and was always in control. However he was under strict starter's orders to win his game inside the distance and therefore get away early to celebrate his fourth wedding anniversary! Congratulations Dan - both for winning and longevity in the relationships department!
Charles rolled back the years, and by driving long and straight throughout the whole match won by 8&7. It is not known if Charles also had a pressing engagement to attend.
James, a recent addition to the Stanton Category 1 Club, had a comfortable win, winning 6&4. He has now been nicknamed "tree man" not due to his prowess with a tree wood, but because of his ability to play the "Stanton scuttle" from behind trees. This talent, together with his excellent short game, makes him a real force to reckon with. Well done James.
Anthony had another easy win, winning his match by the proverbial dog licence 7&6. (You have to be of a certain age to understand this feat!!) He played good, solid golf and fully deserved his victory.
Stanton 5 0 Nottingham City
All the Team played extremely well on the night and once again we were well supported. I would especially like to mention Head Greenkeeper Dan and his Team for the superb condition of the course and the excellent pin placements, enabling the holes consistently to get in the way of our Team's putts.
All the players on the night enjoyed the food which was very well organised by John.
We now we look forward to seeing you all at the next match v Ruddington Grange (A) on Tuesday 19th June.
