ROUND 5 DRAW
Stanton-on-the-Wolds Golf Club lost to Chatsworth Golf Club (A) at the 20th Hole
Our team of Di Hardwick and Fran Tunnicliffe travelled to Chatsworth Golf Club on Weds 10th July to play in the fifth round of the Daily Mail Ladies 4-somes knockout.
The girls had to give four shots, which came at the 1st & 4th and as it is only 9 holes played twice, at 10th & 14th.
Di and Fran played better golf tee to green than the opponents, but with the shots so early on, they were soon 3 down and found the slow greens very difficult to adapt to. The six supporters who had travelled to be there cheered them on and they managed to fight their way back into the game, despite the opponents chipping and putting well on their home course.
They had a chance to win the match at the 17th but could not get the ball up to the hole, and needed a half at the final hole to win. Unfortunately the opposition chipped to a foot from the hole for a par, and we left our putt short yet again, so on to sudden death!
Giving a shot at the 19th seemed unfair, but we made a great par to halve and looked like winning the next, however it did not go to plan after a good drive, and we could not make a par and lost there on the 20th hole.
Well done to the girls for fighting so bravely on a course that was so different to ours, and for getting so far in the competition.
The Finals will be played at Slaley Hall, Northumberland, just outside Hexham.
