Ladies InterClub Foursomes Semi Finals

The Ladies InterClub Foursomes Team selected for the Semi Final Match against Coxmoor GC at Sherwood Forest GC on Monday 12th August was:-

  • Jane Harby (9) & Louise Spray (12) - match halved
  • Fran Tunnicliffe (13) & Di Hardwick (14) - lost by 1 hole

The Stanton Ladies’ Team and their usual supporters set off with great intentions of reaching the final of the ladies’ interclub foursomes.

The first pair, Jane and Louise were playing level and Di and Fran were giving 2 shots.

Jane and Louise struggled to adapt to the greens over the first few holes, and despite good play tee to green, found themselves 3 down after 6. They fought back winning the 7th and 8th and after nine had brought it back to only 1down. At the short tenth, Jane found the green and the opponents missed, bringing them back to all square. They lost the next two holes, finding bunkers, but won the 14th, where Louise found her putting length, and had opportunities to win the 16th and 17th but only managed to halve those with a couple of poor shots. So they came to the last one down. After a good drive from Jane, Louise put it in the bunker short of the green. Jane played a great shot to 6 feet from the pin and Louise bravely holed it, to finish all square!

Try as they might, the second pairing were unable to crack the resolve of the Coxmoor pairing. After establishing a strong 3 up lead Fran Tunnicliffe and Di Hardwick found themselves all square after 9 holes.

It wasn’t until the 15th however that Coxmoor managed to go one ahead, they built on this lead at 16, and although Stanton held them at 17, they were two up going down the last.

Not knowing the score of the pair ahead, Stanton kept their heads and in a last ditch attempt to help win the match, a glorious drive followed by a soaring seven iron found them on the green in regulation. The putt trickled up to the hole and Coxmoor conceded ending the match 1 up to Coxmoor. The cries of anguish could be heard far and wide as Fran and Di were told that the match ahead had finished all square.

A great match fought in the best spirit, congratulations must go to Coxmoor who now face Notts Ladies in the final on September 9th again at Sherwood Forest.
