Get into Golf Event - Sunday 26th June

The Get into Golf event took place on Sunday 26th June between 2.00pm and 4.00pm with six ladies and one girl attending.

Stanton Professional Nick Hernon began by showing them the basics, which was met with much enthusiasm and some success, it must be said.

Some shots were even being applauded by an admiring gallery.

With lots of smiles all round, we adjourned to the putting green.

Again, after some pointers from the Professional, it was down to the practicalities of putting, which we Members know on our greens are ever easy, but clearly fun when it's your first experience!

The mood shifted slightly when Nick announced a putting contest.

Yes, now it became serious and everyone's competitive side appeared.

After 5 holes the result was tied, calling for a sudden-death play off.

The eventual winner is seen here receiving her prize from Lady Captain Jacquie.

It looks as if Stanton will be seeing some more new faces at the coaching sessions, and hopefully as part of our wonderful Ladies' Section in the very near future.

We look forward to welcoming you Ladies.

James "Reg" Varney equals Course Record

Stanton-on-the-Wolds Scratch Team Member James "Reg" Varney has equalled the Stanton-on-the-Wolds Golf Club course record of 66 (with Martin Allen) in the June Thursday Medal.

In benign conditions, with the course still in superb shape after last weekend's Coronation Trophy, James breezed round the front nine in 31 strokes with an eagle on the long 6th together with three birdies.

The momentum was continued on the back nine with four more birdies and although 2 shots were dropped to par, a superb score and joint course record ensued.

Well done James - Stanton is proud of you!
