The Captains' Charity for 2018 is Keyworth and District Community Concern

This local voluntary organisation was formed over 30 years ago and in 2016 converted from a Trust to a registered charity. With new volunteers adding to the experience and commitment of the existing long serving volunteers, KDCC is well set to continue into the future meeting the needs of the local community.

Our Key Services as a Charity are a combination of providing direct support to local residents and also assisting other local organisations to achieve their objectives.

Tuesday Lunch Club

We run a weekly Day Centre for local elderly and disabled residents, entirely staffed by volunteers. It is held in the Keyworth Centenary Lounge from 9.30 to 2.30, providing lunch, social dialogue and companionship. In the morning Members are collected from their homes in our Community Buses operated by volunteer drivers and escorts, and taken back home in the afternoon.

New members and volunteers welcome. Contact Doreen Gee on 0115 937 4429

Thursday Shopping

Each week our volunteer drivers and escorts use one of our Community Buses to collect elderly Keyworth residents from their homes, take them to the local shops, and assist them with shopping as required. After completing their shopping the ‘customers’ are taken back home and help is provided to carry their purchases.

New members and volunteers welcome.

Support for other local organisations through use of our Community Bus

We operate two minibuses under the small bus permit scheme, operated on a non-profit basis for the benefit of voluntary organisations in Keyworth and neighbouring villages.
Our buses have easy access, and are fitted with tail lifts for wheelchair access and can carry up to 16 people. All of our drivers are volunteers.

More volunteer Bus Drivers and Escorts are welcome -
Contact the Bus Manager on 07881 836 221 or via e-mail

Local groups or non-commercial associations can apply to borrow a bus using their own volunteer drivers following a familiarisation session with the bus manager. Alternatively one of the Charity volunteer drivers may be available to drive. Organisations borrowing our buses are asked for a donation to cover running costs.

Amongst the 40 Member organisations we support are:-
  • Adult groups
  • Keyworth Friendship Club (weekly afternoon meetings)
  • Keyworth Gardening Association
  • Keyworth & District Ladies' Probus Club
  • Webster Hall Ladies
  • Ruddington Parish Council (weekly morning community support journeys)
  • East Midlands Disability Swimming
Children and young people groups:-
  • Nottingham Squadron Air Cadets
  • 1st Keyworth Scouts
  • Ruddington Churches Young Peoples Group
  • Willow Brook Primary School
  • Keyworth District Guides
On-going fundraising

In 2017 we were able to use accumulated funds from donations by local individuals, and local and national organisations, to replace our two ageing and increasingly costly minibuses. However as a Charity, on-going fundraising is essential if we are to continue to provide a community service to meet a growing local need.

Captains' Nominated Charity 2018

We are delighted to be the nominated Charity of the 2018 Captains of Stanton-on-the Wolds Golf Club.
The donation Keyworth & District Community Concern will receive from being selected, will allow the Charity to:-

  • Encourage new organisations to use our buses by offering reduced contributions towards running costs. We are launching an immediate pilot scheme with schools.
  • Upgrade the facilities where we run our weekly Day Centre.
  • Increase our offer to groups supporting children & young people.
  • Better promote our Community Bus operation and increase usage of our service.
  • Meet the demand from groups supporting elderly and disabled people in our community.
  • Contribute to the replacement cost of our buses as part of a replacement strategy.
