A Centenarian at Stanton!

On August 9th a celebration for the first Lady Centenarian Member at Stanton took place at the Golf Club.

Editor's note:-
There has already been a centenarian Member before (Wing Commander James (Jim) Flint DFC. GM. DFM. AE. RAF Rtd) but sadly he was not well enough to attend the celebration planned for him at the Golf Club.

Joan Hardwick joined the Club in 1946 with her husband Charles.

She was Ladies' Captain in 1969 and had a long and successful playing career, winning many Club Trophies, including the Scratch Cup twice. She achieved a handicap of 11 and had three holes-in-one, the most memorable being a wild tee shot at the fifteenth that ricocheted off a tractor into the hole!

Joan attributes her long life to playing Bridge; she still plays regularly, and her favourite tipple of sherry has probably helped!

Joan had several parties to celebrate reaching 100 on July 31st, and I was privileged to be invited to the gathering at the Golf Club where the Restaurant provided some of the Ladies with delicious sandwiches and cakes, and the Club presented Joan with a bottle of sherry and a flower arrangement.

Jean Wightman made a lovely cake, and Joan can be seen here with her gifts.

We wish her well for the future and look forward to her continuing to come to the Club for lunch on Tuesdays for many years to come.
