USE OF MATS
TEMPORARY LOCAL RULE
In order to protect the course, the following Temporary Local Rule, concerning the MANDATORY USE OF MATS,
will apply with effect from 1st January 2012 and until further notice.
A ball which comes to rest on any fairway or closely mown area around the greens
MUST(except in circumstances outlined below) : -
- Without penalty, be lifted, optionally cleaned, and placed
on the appropriate mat within six inches of the original position of the ball,
not nearer the hole. - If a ball when placed rolls from the mat it may be replaced without penalty.
If it still fails to remain on the mat, the mat shall be moved
to the nearest point, not nearer the hole, where the ball will remain at rest. - There will be no penalty should the ball move or be moved
after being placed on the mat and before playing a stroke,
including when addressing the ball or taking a practice swing.
EXCEPTION
- Any shot being played using a putter.
RULE CHANGE - 13/1/12
1) When playing from the Tee, there is NO requirement to use a mat.
2) When playing SOCIAL golf members CAN if they wish, use the mat in the Rough.
PREFERRED LIES:
NOTE: This rule has been superceded by the USE OF MATS rule (above)
- A ball lying on a closely mown area (including Par 3 Holes) may be lifted, cleaned and placed within 6 inches of its original position, no nearer the hole, without penalty. Once a ball has been so placed it is deemed to be in play.
ROPES AND STAKES:
- The ropes and their supporting stakes used to protect the Course from excessive wear MAY NOT BE MOVED. A ball lying in a position which results in a player's stance or swing being impeded by a rope or stake may be lifted and dropped within two club· lengths of its original position, no nearer the hole without penalty.
TRACTOR MARKS:
- Deep ruts, made by tractors or other ground keeping equipment, are to be treated as Ground Under Repair.
TEMPORARY GREENS:
- Where the apron of the Green is used as a Temporary Green, the Green proper is deemed to be part of that Temporary Green.
PLUGGED BALLS IN THE ROUGH:
- Any ball which is plugged in the rough, may be lifted, cleaned and dropped within two club lengths of its original position without penalty.
