Match report :- Stanton vs Oakmere Park (H) - 24th April 2017.
On a bitterly cold and surprisingly windy night, the new-look Team comprised Jonathan Kisby, Phil Norris, Dan Limon, Tom Davies and Digby Kite, (together with reserves Neil Collings and Nick Orchard). The Team photo clearly reflects the collective enthusiasm shown during the pre-season preparations.
After a somewhat shaky start, which had the group of onlookers on the Club patio ducking for cover in one instance, the fledgling team rallied, and a situation that had looked pretty bleak during the early stages of the match, evolved into a closely-fought contest.
All credit to our guys, who to a man, fought very hard indeed. Urged on by a most respectable number of dedicated followers, several inspirational performances ensued.
Tom Davies, three down at one stage, won his match by 4&2.
Dan Limon, in spite of a ragged start which resulted in his being quickly four down, rallied spectacularly and won all four of the last holes to finish all square, leaving his opponent shaken and bemused on the 18th green!
Jonathan Kisby, first player out, drew on all his experience to come back from two down to finish all square - another resolute effort.
Although not achieving quite the result wished for, non-Playing Captain Albert was extremely pleased with the grit and resolve shown by all his Team, and wishes to express his thanks for the tremendous support given by those faithful Members who turned out on a very cold evening.
The Scratch Team's next encounter in the InterClub League is against Mapperley on the 8th May at Stanton-on-the-Wolds - again any support for the Team would be most welcome to set them on their winning way.
Result:- Loss for Stanton by two matches to one, with two halved.
