Dear Member,
On behalf of the Ladies’ Section of Stanton-on-the-Wolds Golf Club, I offer a warm welcome to all golfers who visit our website, which I hope you will find both interesting and comprehensive.
We take great pride in being recognised as a very friendly club with a thriving and active Ladies’ Section, and it is a great privilege for me to be elected as Lady Captain for 2012/13.
Our course presents a challenge for golfers of all abilities. With many mature trees and strategically placed bunkers, it will take clear thinking and a steady pair of hands to get that par!
The Ladies’ Section has some 125 members, 40 of whom, on average, play in the weekly Tuesday competitions. For those ladies who are working, the alternative competition day is Sunday. A wide variety of formats are played throughout the year together with qualifying medals and stablefords, and although we also have fun competitions, these are usually held during the winter months. All players are welcome, be it beginner or scratch.
The Club competes in County Silver and Bronze Leagues as well as Ladies and Mixed Interclub matches. National knock-out competitions are also entered, and individuals are encouraged to participate in ladies' and mixed club competitions. Friendly games against local clubs, together with mixed matches, are also played during the summer months. I would like to wish all teams an enjoyable and successful year.
The Ladies’ Section makes full use of the club's website - publishing competition results and giving full details of competitions and events taking place throughout the year. Members are able to print off their current handicap certificates and have full access to their playing record.
Twice a year we have a keenly fought Captain v Vice Captain team match, followed by lunch and entertainment which makes for an enjoyable and light-hearted day. Other social events are held throughout the year, and we also have a keen group of ladies who play bridge on a regular basis.
The 175 Club lottery holds an evening draw every third Friday in the month and as well as being a popular social event for all members involved, provides those holding numbers a chance to win some extra cash.
‘When You Wish Upon A Star’, the Captains’ Charity for 2012, aims to make dreams come true for sick children. This year they are celebrating ‘21 years of smiles’, having granted over 14,500 wishes. I sincerely hope that we can do our part in helping them continue with their dream-making, and would like to take this opportunity of thanking all the Members in advance for the support this worthwhile charity will undoubtedly receive. Further details can be found on our web site.
Any club is only as good as its Members, and it is the Ladies of Stanton-on-the-Wolds Golf Club who make our Section such an active and enthusiastic one and contribute so much to the club as a whole.
My Lady Vice Captain is Helena McCannah, who together with the other hard-working officers, form part of a very strong and forthright Ladies’ Committee. I wish to record here my appreciation of their hard work and dedication, without which the Club - let alone the Ladies' Section - would not run quite so smoothly!
The Ladies’ Section welcomes new members, so any existing Member who knows of someone wishing to join should encourage them to contact the Office, or visit the Visitors’ Section of our web site for full details.
Thank you all for your continued support. I wish you happy and successful golfing in 2012.
Trish Annesley
